How we research your surname

Every custom Herald Lab document is prepared by a person — not a random clip-art crest generator. After your order, a specialist:

  2. Uses your optional origin hint when sources list several branches.
  3. Consults historical and heraldic reference works, onomastic dictionaries, gazetteers, and archival summaries.
  4. Looks for coats of arms historically recorded for some families of this name, or arms commonly associated with the surname in reliable sources.
  5. Writes a long commemorative narrative and typesets the portrait PDF in your chosen pdf_language.

We favour documented associations over decorative guesswork. When no arms can be documented, we say so and supply a clearly labeled artistic reconstruction rather than inventing a fake “official family coat of arms.”

Honest heraldry (please read)

A coat of arms is not automatically “yours” because you share a last name. In traditional heraldry, arms belong to specific individuals or lineages — not to every person with the same surname.
